What studies found
These figures are shown next to your break-even, not used in it. Most time savings people report are their own estimates; the studies that measured results found less.
Your break-even: 7 minutes a week.
- The Australian Treasury worked out that a mid-level official needs to move about 13 minutes a week to higher-value work to cover the Copilot licence (Calculated by the study’s authors Australian Treasury, 2025).
- Users in the UK government’s Copilot trial said they saved 26 minutes a day: about 130 minutes a week, by their own account (Self-reported UK government Copilot experiment, 2025).
- Chatbot users across Denmark said they saved 2.8% of their working hours: about 67 minutes a week at your hours (Self-reported Humlum and Vestergaard, 2025).
- The same Danish study found that only 3% to 7% of the time workers said they saved showed up as higher earnings (Measured in a study Humlum and Vestergaard, 2025).
- A UK department found its staff’s diaries reported time saved on data analysis, while a timed test found Copilot users did Excel analysis more slowly and worse (Measured in a study UK Department for Business and Trade, 2025).
The payback tool adds the rest of the sum: how much freed time you actually put to use, set-up and checking.
